Intended to help students increase their skills, students in this class should have some sewing machine experience.  They need to be able to thread the machine and understand it’s basic operation.

Students will spend the week working through a series of bags designed to increase their sewing abilities.  Students will sew a bag with a flap closure, round bottom bag and zipper pouch.  

Skills learned in this class include:

• How to sew a consistent seam allowance
• How to use a zipper foot
• Topstitching techniques
• How to ease on curves
• How to sew straps on to reduce the likelihood of tearing
• How to sew a buttonhole
• Techniques for securely sewing buttons
• How to use appliques and other commercial decorations

All materials are provided.

Students should wear closed toe shoes in class.

Thanks to Funding from the City of Las Cruces and the American Rescue Plan Act we are able to offer this class free of cost to all Title One students who attend schools in Las Cruces, otherwise it would cost $149.00. 

Title One schools include all of the Las Cruces Public Schools, White Sands Schools, Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy, Arrowhead Park, Alma d'Arte, J Paul Taylor Academy, La Academia Dolores Huerta, Los Montanas, New America, Raíces Del Saber.
