Please note, this camp is free for students attending a title one school. Title one schools include ALL Las Cruces Public Schools, plus a few charter schools. If you have questions about if your school is included in Title one, see more information at the end of this post.
Over the course of the week, students will make several bags, each with a different technique tailored to help them develop their sewing machine skills. We will do some patchwork to practice our seam control, some patch pockets, make casings for drawstring closure and even “box” the corners to make a flat bag dimensional.
Skill developed in this class will include:
-How to thread the sewing machine and bobbin
-Use of the backstitch function
-Use of a seam gauge
-How to properly press seams
-Where to look for accurate seam allowances
-How and where to use decorative stitches
-Top-stitching techniques
-How to create a casing
-How to “box” corners to create dimensional bags
-Sewing straps in place
All materials will be provided.
Students should be at least 9 years old and need to be attending a Title 1 school in Las Cruces to qualify.
