This class is designed for students who have some experience with the sewing machine.

We will focus on refining sewing skills while learning how to construct woven cotton lounge pants (think something like scrub bottoms).  

Students will have their bodies measured by Sandy on the first day of class.  These measurements will be entered into a computer program to create a bespoke pattern drafted to their particular dimensions. Parents who wish to be present during the measuring process should plan to stay at the beginning of class on Monday.

Skills developed during this class include:

• Cutting garment pattern

• Identifying the grainline markings and aligning them with the grain of the fabric

• Use of the seam gauge

• Top stitching techniques

• Hemming techniques

• When to use a straight stitch, and when to use zigzag stitch

• Creating casings

• Techniques for inserting elastic

All materials will be provided.  However, if students wish to purchase and bring in their own fabric, please reach out to Sandy for fabric requirements.

Students should be at least 11 years old and need to be attending a Title 1 school in Las Cruces to qualify. Separate enrollments are necessary for each participant.
