Back by popular demand, we invite you to come make your own adorable felt axolotl. This is a hand stitching class, and while previous experience is very helpful, it is not necessary. Students will need the fine motor skills for scissor control to cut out the pattern pieces, some of which are very small.
All materials will be provided.
Students should be at least 9 years old and need to be attending a Title 1 school in Las Cruces to qualify. Adults who are interested in attending with their student may also enroll. Separate enrollments are necessary for each participant.
Skills developed in this class will include:
Use of the whip stitch as the main construction stitch
How to start and stop a thread for the cleanest finish
How to use freezer paper to cut out your felt pieces
Order of operations when stuffing
How to divide embroidery floss without tangling it all up
Anita from Typing with Tea on Etsy has given us permission to use her fabulous pattern. Check it out here, and then explore the other softie patterns she has available. After class, you will have all the skills for sewing her other designs independently.
