Through demonstrations followed by hands-on practice, you’ll learn
The basic physics and engineering behind how audio recordings work
The fundamental components of audio recording systems
Basic software functions
The importance of mic type and mic placement
The power of MIDI instruments and MIDI editing
More advanced software features that can make your recordings sound better, including how to adjust sample rate and bit depth, how to use comp tracks, how to set up effect chains (for individual tracks and for the master), and more—plus what all of that means!
No previous experience with audio recording is needed. By the end of the class, you’ll know what you need to record your music and how you can use software to help get the sound you want.
What to bring:
A sealable water bottle (optional, but encouraged)
A note-taking device, analog or digital
An instrument (optional: acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and keyboards are available at Cruces Creatives)
Ages: The class is designed for adults. Mature teenagers (13+) are welcome with a parent or guardian.
About the Instructor:
Pat DeSimio is an award-winning local songwriter and musician with 20 years of experience using digital recording systems. In this class, he’ll share some of the most valuable things he’s learned through decades of hands-on experimentation, multiple academic courses and textbooks, and scores of hours working beside professional sound engineers.
