Join Ms. Sandy for this intensive fall break sewing camp!
By the end of class students will be confident and ready to work on their home sewing machines, or take advantage of the machines at Cruces Creatives. Students will complete a tote bag, pillowcase and drawstring backpack and will be able to :
Thread the machine
Wind a bobbin
Use a seam gauge
Use multiple stitch styles
Focus on the right spot to make straighter seams
Use pins and clips effectively
Sew a casing
Thread cord through a casing
And more!
This class is for the student who has not used a sewing machine before. It is the very first step in learning to machine sew, and serves as the prerequisite for all other sewing classes for youth here at Cruces Creatives.
Students should be 11-18* years old. (*18 year olds who have not yet graduated high school)
Sewing machines and materials will be provided.
Class size is limited to 6 students. (Please sign up for class even if it is full as there is a waitlist and we will be able to contact you in the event of an opening, or, if there is enough interest we may be able to offer an additional session.)
*This class, which would normally cost $115, is being offered for FREE to LCPS students through the City of Las Cruces ARPA funds. LCPS student ID numbers (also known as student’s lunch numbers) will be required to register.
Sandy Smith will be your instructor. She has been sewing since she was a child and is super excited to help you get familiar with her best-tool-friend: the sewing machine. The world is a different place when you don’t have to settle for what has been mass manufactured! Contact her at s.smith@crucescreatives.org or text/call (575) 489-6450.
