Metaphorical Self Portraiture is a drawing class designed for high school students within the age range of 14 to 18. Over the course of three hours, this class delves into the exploration of the artist’s inner self by utilizing symbolism, metaphors and other literary devices. By drawing a creative portrait, students are able to depict themselves in thought-provoking ways, moving beyond the conventional representations of facial anatomy. Students should bring a fully charged phone to take reference pictures and are encouraged to bring a small prop or meaningful object of their choosing.

Students will learn to use graphite pencils, sharpeners, kneaded erasers, white plastic erasers,    11” x 14” drawing paper, chalk pastels, colored pencils, and blenders. Materials made available through ARPA grant and the class is free of cost to the students attending a Las Cruces Public School.
