Empty lots can be eyesores. But they don't need to be! With a little creativity and elbow grease, we can turn some of them into great assets which enhance the entire community. The City of Las Cruces has brought on ASH+LIME, a planning firm which specializes in creative strategies for underutilized land and buildings. They have specially invited the Cruces Creatives community to talk with ASH+LIME to learn about our goals and vision and to help create ideas to activate vacant lots. Come learn about some of the best "activations" being implemented around the country and let's talk about what may work for Las Cruces. The City of Las Cruces and ASH+LIME will be talking about short- and long-term strategies -- and what we may be able to do in the future, and some next steps we can take now. TACTICAL URBANISM is a term used to describe a collection of low-cost, temporary changes to the built environment, usually in cities, intended to improve local neighborhoods and city gathering places. Tactical Urbanism is also commonly referred to as pop-up urbanism, city repair, or D.I.Y. urbanism.
