Bernadette Frerker. Larimar
Opening Reception: Friday June 7, 5:30-8:30PM
Show will run from June 7- July 1
I am inspired by nature and my environment. I am interested in mysticism as it relates to place. My vision is an imaginary illusion of equality and peace and the the creation of the figures it will manifest itself into human experience. My art is focused on ceramic sculpture with some additional materials and functional ceramics. My work explores a fantastical world related to the spiritual and divine feminine mystique. Each piece tells a story not always evident to the viewer. My work is influenced by feminine images, sculptures and carvings from ancient times and ancient pottery and ceramic figures found throughout the world. I create human like beings with androgynous or simple forms and references to animal-god forms and mystical creatures. They are Spirit Dancers that appear to celebrate, contemplate, or begin as journey of reawakening from a memory of a different time and place. There is a profound connection with the earth and celestial universe. These images maintain a mysterious origin and provide and opportunity to imagine a different existence where equality and justice are a norm, not a dream.
