4th - 6th Graders

Adventures in Circuit Land

Description: Come meet Routy Bright and the gang as you put your engineering brain to work making circuit tiles, a Wiggle Beast, a BabyBristleBot and more.  In this class you’ll get the chance to solder LEDs, build a hydraulic system, and create a propeller driven car. We’ll visit Esmeralda Circuit in her famous Circuit Garden, and learn why she’s sent Anu Plante out to find more motor plants.

Age Range: 4th - 6th graders

Length of Program: 5 days, 3 hours each day

Sessions Available:

Illuminated Journals

Description: Come join us and build a book from scratch! You’ll assemble your own papermaking frame and deckle, blend the pulp, learn about pH as you use natural dyes to color your handmade pages, and learn how to bind them in a book. But that’s not all, you are also going to get to design your own cover art and use the laser cutter to etch it out. After you’ve soldered your LEDs, switch and battery pack, you’ll be able to install them in your cover, thus completing your amazing Illuminated Journal.

STEAM Summer Sewing

Description: Have you been curious about using a sewing machine? Come join us and make your own tote bag, personalized pillowcase, drawstring backpack, lounge pants/shorts, and a remote control/cell phone pocket critter! This class is designed for students who have never sewn before.  We will teach you how to thread your machines,  to change and wind bobbins, where to look to sew straight seam allowances, and lots more!

You will get to use the Cricut as you create embellishments for your pillowcase and backpack, and we will use a computer program to convert your body measurements into a pants pattern just for you!

Length of Program: 5 days, 3 hours each day

Sessions Available:

Digital Manufacturing: Making in 3D

Description: In this class, students will learn everything they need to use 3D computer-aided design (TinkerCAD) and 3D printers to make an object that they design themselves. Students will prototype several different versions of their design, building on successes and failures to refine the design and make a better final product.

Age Range: 4th & 5th graders

Length of Program: Once a week, for 3 weeks. 1.5 hours each class.

Sessions Available:

Digital Manufacturing: Making in 2D

Description: In this class, students will learn everything they need to use computer-aided design (TinkerCAD), a laser cutter, and a vinyl cutter to design and make a sign, photo plaque, or piece of wall art, along with laser-cut cardboard packaging to hold it. The skills students learn will be valuable in prototyping workshops, advanced manufacturing, business branding workshops, CAD/graphic design software classes, and more.

Age Range: 4th & 5th graders

Length of Program: Once a week, for 3 weeks. 1.5 hours each class.

Sessions Available:
