Empty lots can be eyesores. But they don't need to be! With a little creativity and elbow grease, we can turn some of them into great assets which enhance the entire community. In our third discussion we'll be continuing on our main themes of gardens and green space, arts, and activities; of the locations that have been identified; and getting started as teams with the help of local project management system Zeall. -------- In the first discussion on June 22nd, the City of Las Cruces brought ASH+LIME, a planning firm which specializes in creative strategies for underutilized land and buildings. They talked with the community about short- and long-term strategies - and what we may be able to do in the future, along with some next steps we can take now. To catch up on some tactical urbanism techniques check out: The Tactical Urbanist's Guide How to do Creative Placemaking In our second discussion on July 14th, we identified some possible locations, talked about more idea themes, and what skills community members were bringing to the table. -------- TACTICAL URBANISM is a term used to describe a collection of low-cost, temporary changes to the built environment, usually in cities, intended to improve local neighborhoods and city gathering places. Tactical Urbanism is also commonly referred to as pop-up urbanism, city repair, or D.I.Y. urbanism.
