The Charitable Crafting Project makes textiles for good causes: children's clothing to replenish the supplies at Gospel Rescue Mission; blankets, clothing, and holiday bags for Casa de Peregrinos; and other charitable projects proposed by participants.

In a collaborative effort, participants work hands-on, going through the entire process of garment construction. Participants with higher levels of skills in a particular area can guide those with lower skill levels, and we'll make as many garments as we have the time, materials, and labor to make.

This is a free program using donated materials. If you’d like to be involved, you can

    • Help make clothing by sewing or assisting during the charitable crafting sessions
    • Donate fabric or other sewing supplies by dropping them off at Cruces Creatives during business hours. The project can use yarn, fabric pieces of ½ a yard or longer, inner facings and linings, and other sewing supplies and notions.

More information about the program is below.

    Pre-requisites:

    • Safety training for the Cruces Creatives textile room (provided free at the beginning of each Charitable Crafting session)
    • Previous sewing experience is helpful, but not required. If you don't sew, you can come to pin and cut, iron, and make information labels. If you can't stay to create, donate!

    What to bring:
Multiple sewing machines and many supplies are available, so all you need to bring is yourself. More supplies and equipment would be welcome, though, so if you’re able, please bring sewing supplies like scissors, pins, and the like; sewing notions like buttons, elastic, zippers, lace and trim, and thread; and—if you’d like to use a familiar machine—your sewing machine.

    Ages:
18 and older, or 14-17 with a parent or guardian present

    About the facilitator:
Dina Honeycutt has been sewing and practicing other textile crafts for about 45 years, making clothing and toys for friends, family, and charitable projects. She especially enjoys cooperative work for its opportunities to share knowledge and skills.

OPEN STUDIO FOR ARTWORK Afternoon and Evening Sessions

Beginning December 10th, afternoon and evening open art studio sessions are offered every 2nd Tuesday from 3 - 6 pm and from 6:30 - 8:30, with monitored assistance at Cruces Creatives.

A wide range of donated art supplies and materials are available or you may bring your own to create your artwork onsite. You can set up a cart for your working area or use one of ours. Easels and tables are available but we ask that you use a drop cloth or table cover for any painting

Please register for each week you plan to attend so we can send you a reminder and get an idea of the space needed. The sessions are free to Cruces Creatives members, and we are asking a $5 donation for non-members so we can replace supplies when needed.

As the studio sessions pick up, we hope to offer live figure drawing and still life drawing and painting opportunities. For more information, contact Mary Diesel at spottedslinky55@gmail.com.

This workshop is inviting writers of any level of writing skill to come share a maximum of 4 double spaced pages of fiction or non-fiction  which they have written. Writers can choose any genre except poetry. The work can be stand alone or a chapter/segment of a larger piece of work.

Participants are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their work to share with the class. Each writer will have the option to share background information of their work if desired. The group will also be encouraged to give positive criticism of the shared work rather than any negative feedback.

This is a class where writers should feel comfortable sharing and accepting positive feedback.

*This workshop is to be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month.
