Join us each First Friday for a new art opening!

    This exhibition is featuring:

What a Time to Be Alive!

a solo exhibit by photographer Phoebe Adame.

What a Time to Be Alive is a collection of some of artist, Phoebe's, favorite and most meaningful photos she has taken over the years and across the Southwest.

In exploring her new role as a woman in her family, in a culture of machismo and of masculinity, she finds comfort in the desert she calls Home by assigning new meaning to the tales that came of her experiences.

Paired with poems written along her journey, What a Time to Be Alive represents her experiences in exploring themes of heartbreak, ego-death, self-love, transition, and girlhood.

"I hope you enjoy this collection as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. What a time to be alive!" – Miss Phoebe

Stick around to listen to our All-Original Open Mic which takes place starting at 6:00pm on First Fridays.

In this class students will learn how to improve their fiction writing skills. That will include world building, character building, story arc and other aspects of fiction writing.

Students should be prepared to write fiction outside of class, make copies of their work and bring the copies into the class for students and the instructor to read.

Firstly we will dive into storytelling by reading a short scene or a page or a very short story to discuss craft. Then we will segue into reading students' work out loud in class and then discuss the students' work.

*Please be advised that this class requires a minimum of 5 registrants one week prior to the commencement date, failing which the class will be subject to cancellation.*

Join us for a night of Scottish traditional music with one of the hottest live tickets on the traditional Scottish music scene today - the Old Blind Dogs!

The musical evolution of OBD began in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1992 with roots that grew from the eclectic music scene that flourished in the Granite City during the early 90’s. Four musicians from very different musical backgrounds came together to create a full-time professional touring band with the aim of showcasing the rich tradition of songs and tunes of the North East of Scotland on an international stage.

Over 30 years later, the 'Dugs' have been inducted into the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 'Trad Music Hall of Fame' (2020), and released their fourteenth studio album 'Knucklehead Circus’ - a joyous, uplifting and fun album full of compelling energy and intoxicating rhythm on which OBD continue to innovate within their tradition while faithfully revealing its essence.

The band includes original member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals), Aaron Jones (cittern/guitar/vocals), Donald Hay (percussion/vocals), and Elias Alexander (pipes/whistles). Learn more about the band at https://www.oldblinddogs.co.uk/.

    Time:
Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and music starts at 7:00 p.m.

Come spend a few hours in the art corner hosted by Mari Blacker!  Mari has been "doing art forever" and is super excited to have you come spend some time with her exploring the paints, pastels, inks, papers and canvases in the Art Corner.  Did you know we have paper embossers and air brushes?

This workshop is a ramble through the Art Corner with each student exploring at their own pace.

This is not a drop-off class.  Parents are asked to stay and participate.

While intended for homeschool families, members of the community are welcome to attend as well.

Do you have an interest in exploring the world of poetry but don't know where to begin?

In the Generating Poetry for Beginner Students course, participants will be acquainted with various poetic styles and techniques, and will have the opportunity to share their work with their peers.

Throughout the duration of this class, we will analyze and discuss six published poems, one per session, to gain a deeper understanding of the craft. Following these discussions, students will be guided in writing exercises to practice employing the techniques learned.

During each class, two students will have the chance to present their work aloud, allowing all participants to provide valuable feedback.

To ensure you're prepared, bring a notebook and a pen!

*Please be advised that this class requires a minimum of 5 registrants one week prior to the commencement date, failing which the class will be subject to cancellation.*

The Charitable Crafting Project makes textiles for good causes.

In a collaborative effort, participants work hands-on, each participating as they can.  Participants with higher levels of skills in a particular area can guide those with lower skill levels, and we'll make as many garments as we have the time, materials, and labor to make.

This is a free program using donated materials. If you’d like to be involved, you can

    • Help make clothing by sewing or assisting during the charitable crafting sessions
    • Donate fabric or other sewing supplies by dropping them off at Cruces Creatives during business hours. The project can use yarn, fabric pieces of ½ a yard or longer, inner facings and linings, and other sewing supplies and notions.
    • Donate new children's clothing.

    Ages:
18 and older, or 14-17 with a parent or guardian present

    About the facilitator:
Dina Honeycutt has been sewing and practicing other textile crafts for about 45 years, making clothing and toys for friends, family, and charitable projects. She especially enjoys cooperative work for its opportunities to share knowledge and skills.

    Volunteer Shift

Those who are interested in earning their membership for Cruces Creatives, or are interested in supporting our programs, or are looking to make new friends in our fantastic, artistic community are invited to participate in this volunteer shift.

Tasks vary widely and training is always included.  Some common tasks include soldering LEDs and hobby motors, using the laser or Cricut to prepare project materials, light janitorial and organizing work, and plenty of cutting, counting and bundling!

The efforts of our volunteers make all the difference in the programs we are able to offer.  We literally cannot do it without you!

Volunteer Shifts are scheduled quarterly.  New volunteers are welcome to jump in at any time.

    Guest Program
