Beginning Sewing: The Chinese Coin Blanket
It's time to make those gift items! This is a beginner-friendly technique for sewing a folded, textured light-weight throw or blanket.
Skills taught include drafting and using templates, measuring and cutting using a rotary cutter, flip-and-sew, sewing curved edges and top-stitching using a basic sewing machine.
Materials needed for the course:
1-2 yards cotton flannel. The baby blanket sample used approximately 1 1/2 yards.
1-2 total yards contrasting 100% cotton fabric. Fabric cuts need to be at least 1/3 yard wide to accommodate the size of the templates.
Matching sewing thread.
Sewing machine needles size 12 or 14.
Participants are welcome to bring and use their own sewing machine or use one of the ones available in the Textile Lab. All participants need to have completed the Basic Textile Lab Safety course. Available to ages 14 years and older.
